Opportunities From: Revolutionary Valley

Saturday, May 9th is Lowell's Open Doors and Buskers Festival. We are looking for volunteers for the Visitor Center to hand out Open Doors Maps. We're looking for volunteers at our booth at the Busker festival. 

Cambia Town Lowell adopted the traffic island right in front of Prum Bayon Park at the intersection of Middlesex and Branch Streets. There will be an Island Beautification Day on Saturday May 16 weather permitting.   This will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM.    People can stop by for 1 hour, or more as schedules allow.    Please bring friends and family.   It will be weeding, laying down landscape fabric, mulching, and watering.

Set-up volunteers will be carrying and arranging tables and chairs, putting up directional signs, moving tents on the streets, and any other duty as required to set up for the festival. You need to be in reasonable physical shape. Tables are heavy and require two people to carry and set up. The position may require extended amounts of walking and/or standing on uneven surfaces. This position occurs on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Take-down volunteers will be carrying and stacking tables and chairs, and any other duty as required to take down for the festival. You need to be in reasonable physical shape. Tables are heavy and require two people to carry and stack. The position may require extended amounts of walking and/or standing on uneven surfaces. The working conditions may be extreme heat or rain. This position occurs on Sunday evening.

Transportation/drivers will work to ensure a safe travel experience for the performers during the Lowell Folk Festival. This position requires driving a rented automobile. Several highway driving trips, and airport runs to the city of Boston may be required. Drivers navigate the city during the festival to ensure that performers reach stages on time for their performance. This position requires a valid driver’s License and a CORI check. Although vehicles are air-conditioned drivers will spend much of the time in and out of the cars. Detail orientated and pleasant demeanor is required. Drivers are needed starting Wednesday for airport pickups, throughout the weekend and may also extend to Monday for airport drop off.

Performer Guide volunteers work directly with the artist or band to ensure a positive experience. The position may require extensive amounts of standing or walking on uneven surfaces in potential weather conditions of extreme heat or rain, as well as this the position may be near a site that has loud musical equipment. You will work directly with the performers during the festival. If possible, we ask that the performer guide assist longer than the normal shift and typically for multiple days. You will be travelling with the artist to their sound checks and performances. Position does require working with various people and making sure your artist team is all together when heading to various stages. When possible, guides can be assigned to a group for the day or the weekend.

Music Loggers will record music during the festival. This position works with NCTA sound Technicians using NCTA and Lowell Folk Festival equipment that will be returned at the end of the assignment. A one-hour training session is required to operate the equipment. An equipment operator and a person to record the setup of music will make up this team position. The position is outdoors with potential for weather conditions of extreme heat or rain, and you will be near loud musical equipment. Position might require conversing with the artist to correct set list if applicable.

Team members work in small groups, responsible for interacting with visitors to collect donations throughout the Folk Festival. In return for visitors donating, they receive party beads. Groups work at different sites and will walk through the festival asking for donations. Sites vary and may be uneven or require standing for long periods of time near loud music. This is outdoor work with the potential for weather conditions of rain or extreme heat. 

Staff Trolley access lines during the Lowell Folk Festival This is to provide safe boarding and de-barking of the trolley at stop locations, Mack Plaza, and Boarding House Park. Line assistants also provide safe passage of the trolley along the intersection of Merrimack and Dutton Street. Great for friends to work together. The job requires keeping visitors behind established lines for safety. This position does require interaction with visitors. This position is located outdoors with potential for weather conditions of extreme heat or rain.

Recycling Volunteers will collect and sort the solid waste stream collected in the recycling containers located thought out the festival grounds. The collected waste will be sent to a composting site and the resulting compost is sent to the city of Lowell and the Lowell National Historical Park for landscaping. Bottles and cans will also be collected for recycling. Lowell Folk Festival has a 95% waste diversion and is recognized as a national model for recycling at large scale special events. This position requires long period of standing where you sort trash into assorted locations (Recycle, Trash, Cardboard, and Compost). The position may require extensive amounts of standing or walking on uneven surfaces in potential weather conditions of extreme heat or rain. You will be outside.

Hospitality Coordinators staff break areas for the performers. Volunteers will greet and direct performers to these break areas as they rest between their sets. We are looking for up to two Ambassadors for our 21 Cities and Towns. You will be asked to ensure all local events are listed on our Events calendar page as well as historic locations and significant spots, and even businesses. We will feature you on your City/Town page, and you'll be recognized at CVB events. You'll even be invited to write a post about your area!  The commitment is one year. We ask each Ambassador to volunteer at our Visitor Center for one 4-hour shift per month, and at least one volunteer day at a local event promoted by our organization.
