Volunteer: Island Beautification Day

Cambia Town Lowell adopted the traffic island right in front of Prum Bayon Park at the intersection of Middlesex and Branch Streets. There will be an Island Beautification Day on Saturday May 16 weather permitting.   This will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM.    People can stop by for 1 hour, or more as schedules allow.    Please bring friends and family.   It will be weeding, laying down landscape fabric, mulching, and watering.

Several highway driving trips, and airport runs to the city of Boston may be required. Drivers navigate the city during the festival to ensure that performers reach stages on time for their performance. This position requires a valid driver’s License and a CORI check. Although vehicles are air-conditioned drivers will spend much of the time in and out of the cars. Detail orientated and pleasant demeanor is required. Drivers are needed starting Wednesday for airport pickups, throughout the weekend and may also extend to Monday for airport drop off.

When possible, guides can be assigned to a group for the day or the weekend.

The collected waste will be sent to a composting site and the resulting compost is sent to the city of Lowell and the Lowell National Historical Park for landscaping. Bottles and cans will also be collected for recycling. Lowell Folk Festival has a 95% waste diversion and is recognized as a national model for recycling at large scale special events. This position requires long period of standing where you sort trash into assorted locations (Recycle, Trash, Cardboard, and Compost).
